Creating and Viewing a Corridor in AutoCAD Civil 3D

About Corridor
In  Civil 3D the Corridor is a three-dimensional model of a design encompassing the horizontal, vertical, and the cross-sectional geometries. In other words, a corridor is a combination of an alignment that provides horizontal geometry, a profile that provides vertical geometry, and an assembly that provides cross-sectional geometry. These Civil 3D objects are combined together to create a dynamic three-dimensional corridor model.

To explore various options to create a corridor for your project, we will learn in this to create and view a corridor in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
1.  Before starting the tutorial download the c08_civil_3d_2014_tut.zip file from www.cadcim.com. The path of the file is as follows: Textbooks > Civil/GIS > AutoCAD Civil3D > Exploring AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014.
2.Save and extract the downloaded file at the following location:
C:\civil3d_2014\c08
3. Open the File civil3d_2014_c08_tut01
The drawing file contains 1 surface, 1 alignment, 2 profiles, 1 profile view, 2 road assemblies.

Creating the Corridor
1. Choose the Corridor tool from the Create Design panel of the Home tab; the Create Corridor dialog box is displayed.
2. Enter Road Corridor in the Name edit box.
3. Ensure that Proposed Road is selected in the Alignment drop-down list. Next, select Road Profile from the Profile drop-down list.
4. Select the Road Assembly and Existing Ground options from the Assembly and Target Surface drop-down lists, respectively.
5. Next, clear the Set baseline and region parameters check box and then choose the OK button; the Create Corridor dialog box is closed and Civil 3D starts executing the corridor creation process.
In completion of the process, the Road Corridor is added to the Corridors node of the Prospector tab in the Toolspace. Ignore the message and close the panorama window if displayed.

Viewing the Corridor
1. Select and right-click on Road Corridor from the Corridors node in the Tool space; a shortcut menu is displayed.
2. Choose the Select option from the shortcut menu; the corridor is selected in the drawing window.
3. With the corridor selected, right-click in the drawing area; a shortcut menu is displayed.
4. Choose Isolate Object from the shortcut menu; a cascading menu is displayed. Choose Isolate Selected Object from the cascading menu objects other than the selected corridor are hidden.
5. Enter ZE in the command bar; the drawing will zoom to the corridor in the drawing area. The below Figure shows the created corridor.
